Foundational Shamanic Practices
A weekend workshop for building your shamanic tools, Facilitated by Ana Larramendi
Begins Friday at 7pm, ends Sunday at 3pm. Residential and non-residential options.
Prerequisites: A basic journeying class, and the ability to receive spiritual information from spirit teachers and power animals.
This workshop focuses on a more in-depth overview of shamanism by learning some basic foundational practices. An excellent follow-up after taking a basic journeying workshop!
We will review cross cultural understanding of calling in directions: Understanding why it is done and what purpose it serves. You will learn a basic template of what each direction symbolizes so you can confidently create sacred space yourself. In addition, we will learn about smudging, making simple offerings, including a simple Peruvian technique that can be easily applied to many situations. We will also learn grounding and discernment, holding space, as well as practices to stay safe. This will include spiritual hygiene and self-care, such as setting boundaries so we can communicate in a safe and meaningful way with our helping spirits, Power animals, and teachers. A discussion on ethics in this work will also be covered.
Some of our Explorations in this workshop:
- Learn the cross-cultural symbology of each of the sacred directions from a shamanic viewpoint. This helps you build a meaningful relationship when invoking the spirits.
- Learn how to create sacred space with a strong container for protection and safety.
- Making Offerings: students learn the basic practice of making spiritual offerings, prayer and gratitude.
- Building your spiritual team: New helping allies are introduced in this class for protection and managing the student’s skills. Allies include: Body protector, Gatekeeper.
